Whether you’re dealing with complications, thinking about a new implant size, or looking to improve your results, this procedure offers a fresh start. At the Plastic Surgery Center of Scottsdale, we’re here to help you feel confident and comfortable with a look that feels right for you.
What Is Breast Revision?
Breast revision is a procedure used to correct complications that have resulted from breast augmentation surgery. You may consider opting for a breast revision in several situations, including the following:
- Your saline breast implants have deflated, or an MRI or X-ray suggests that the silicone shell leaks.
- You are unhappy with the size of your breasts after the procedure.
- There is tightening of scar tissue around the implant, or your implants have shifted position.
- The breast tissue has changed due to weight gain/loss or skin stretching.
Aging or weight changes can also bring about natural changes to breast tissue over time. This can impact the appearance of implants. Whatever your reason, Dr. Daiza can create a plan that aligns with your goals.
Benefits of Breast Revision
Breast revision offers benefits such as improved symmetry and appearance, resolution of implant complications such as implant rupture, capsular contracture, or rippling, and enhanced comfort and confidence. If your breast augmentation results no longer meet your preferences or if it’s time to switch to a more modern implant type, breast revision is an ideal procedure for you.

Are You the Right Candidate for a Breast Revision?
Even if the breast augmentation was planned and executed correctly, changes can occur following the procedure. The following are some of the most common reasons women consider a breast revision:
- You want to change your breast implant size or type.
- You want to correct an asymmetry of the breasts.
- You want to address the problems that have developed with your breast tissue or the implants.
- Breastfeeding or pregnancy has adversely impacted the results.
- Weight gain or weight loss has adversely impacted the results.
- You want to remove the original implants permanently.

Corrective Options for Your Revision Surgery
The exact nature of your breast revision procedure will depend on your particular issues, needs, and goals.
- Implant Size: If you have decided to change the size of your breast implants, the surgeon will use the original incision to remove and replace them. If you want bigger implants, the surgeon will surgically enlarge the space in the breast where the original implant is to accommodate a larger one.
- Capsular Contracture: In some instances, the breast implant and scar tissue capsule can harden, creating complications. To correct this, the surgeon will use the original incision to remove the hardened implant or scar tissue capsule.
- Implant Malposition: Sometimes, the implant pockets can be created too close together or too far apart, resulting in malpositioned breasts. To fix this, the surgeon will manipulate the capsule around the implant and reconstruct the pocket to shift it into position using an appropriate suturing technique.
- Implant Rippling: If the edges of your saline implant are palpable and visible in the form of breast skin rippling, the surgeon will use the incision to reposition or remove the implants. Other options include using a different implant type, positioning the new implant into a different pocket with better muscle coverage, or using other tissues to cover the edge of the implant.
- Implant Removal: If you are unsatisfied with your results and simply want to return to not having implants, the implants can be removed. The capsule around the implant can also be removed surgically to promote rapid healing.
The surgery aims to help you achieve the most natural-looking and beautiful results while making the surgical experience as comfortable and easy as possible.
What to Expect During Breast Revision
Breast revision is performed under general anesthesia. Techniques and incision sites depend on your procedure plan. The procedure can take two to four hours. After the procedure, you’ll receive detailed instructions for recovery and follow-up visits to monitor your progress.
Breast Revision Recovery
Recovery from breast revision is generally shorter than recovery from the initial augmentation procedure. Most patients can expect swelling and tenderness during the second to fourth week.
Light activities can often be resumed within a week, but strenuous activities should be avoided for four to six weeks. Regular appointments will keep your recovery on track and meet expectations. Following Dr. Daiza’s recovery recommendations will help you maximize your results.
What Results Can You Expect From Breast Revision?
Patients often see improvements in symmetry and a more natural-looking breast contour. Replacing old or problematic implants can also restore comfort and confidence in their appearance.
Breast revision corrects implant rippling, rupture, or capsular contracture. However, results will vary based on individual concerns and the techniques used.
How Much Does Breast Revision Cost?
The cost of breast revision depends on the complexity of the procedure, implant type, and surgical techniques used. You’ll receive a detailed cost estimate during your consultation, including any necessary implant fees or related expenses.
